Using the app with a weak connection and keeping it updated
The mobile app can keep some recently viewed information available during a weak connection, save certain new family activities for later, and install safe app-content updates in the background.
Who this guide is for
Families and coaches using the mobile app, especially when the connection is slow, unavailable, or unreliable.
View recently loaded information
If refreshing recent family or activity information fails, the app may show a saved copy from this device.
Look for Showing cached data. This means the information may not include the latest changes.
- Continue reading the available information if it is useful.
- Use Retry when your connection returns.
- Treat the refreshed online version as the current record.
Only recent saved information is available, and it is removed after a limited time. Signing in as another user does not show the previous user's saved information.
Save a new family activity without a reliable connection
Family users may be able to save a new activity for their own household when a connection attempt fails.
- Complete the new activity as usual.
- Keep the app open until it confirms Saved on this phone. Waiting to sync or a similar waiting state.
- Reconnect to the internet.
- Let the app retry automatically, or use the available retry control.
- Check that the activity appears in the refreshed history.
The app protects against creating the same activity twice when a connection drops during saving.
Review an activity that needs attention
An activity may stop retrying when important details or permissions have changed, or when it has waited too long.
- Open the saved-activity notice.
- Review the reason shown.
- Choose Retry after correcting the problem.
- Choose Review to inspect the activity before deciding.
- Choose Discard only when you no longer want to save it.
Discarding a stopped-timer activity also prevents that old timer from returning.
Offline limits
Offline support is deliberately limited.
- It can show some recently viewed family and activity information.
- It can queue eligible new activities created by a family for its own household.
- It does not queue edits, deletions, account changes, or general file uploads.
- Many screens still require an internet connection.
- Coaches cannot queue client activities for offline saving.
- Access errors are not replaced by old saved data.
If you sign out while activities are waiting to sync, the app warns that they will be discarded. Finish syncing first whenever possible.
Start the mobile app while offline
After the mobile app has successfully opened and installed its content at least once, it can usually start using that saved version while offline.
On a first launch with no connection and no saved app version, the app cannot finish starting. Connect to the internet and try again.
If a background app-content update fails, the previous working version remains available where possible.
Install an app-content update
Some updates are downloaded safely in the background and do not require an App Store or Google Play visit.
- When Update appears on the family or coach home screen, finish any unsaved work.
- Select Update.
- Wait while the app restarts into the new version.
If restarting fails, the app tries to return to the previous version and lets you retry later.
Install a phone-app update
Larger updates require a new version of the installed iOS or Android app.
- Follow the update message shown on the home screen.
- Confirm that you want to open the App Store or Google Play.
- Install the update there.
- Return to Littles Baby Tracker.
A recommended update can usually be postponed. Install a required update as soon as possible because older versions may no longer support current features.
If something goes wrong
- If saved information may be old, reconnect and use Retry before making decisions from it.
- If a queued activity will not sync, open its notice and follow the reason-specific guidance.
- If your device cannot safely retain a queued activity, keep the details elsewhere and retry online.
- If the app will not start offline, connect once so it can install a working version.
- If an update will not restart, close and reopen the app, then try again.
- If the store does not open, search for Littles Baby Tracker directly in the App Store or Google Play.
