Notifications and automatic refresh

The app can refresh open screens when information changes and can send selected notifications to an iOS or Android device. These features help you notice updates sooner, but you can still refresh the app manually.

Who this guide is for

Families and coaches using the mobile app or coach portal.

Some notification types are released gradually and may not be available to every account or practice yet.

How automatic refresh works

When automatic refresh is available, an open family or coach screen can update shortly after a related change.

For example, an activity list, timer, access state, notification list, or conversation may refresh without a full page reload.

If the live connection is unavailable:

  • the current screen remains usable;
  • returning to the app or browser window may refresh it;
  • some areas check for updates periodically; and
  • you can use the screen's refresh or retry option.

Automatic refresh never changes which families or records you are allowed to view.

Turn on mobile notifications

  1. Open the notification preferences for your family or coach account.
  2. Enable the notification type you want to receive.
  3. Allow notifications when your phone asks for permission.
  4. If prompted, update the app before enabling a newer notification feature.

If permission was previously denied, use your phone's Settings app to allow notifications for Littles Baby Tracker, then return to the app and try again.

Coach activity notifications

Where available, coaches can receive a notification when a family records a new activity.

  • The coach must still have active access to the family.
  • Activity alerts can be controlled globally and muted for individual families.
  • Only activities created by the family trigger this type of alert.
  • Opening the alert takes the coach to the activity-notifications area.

Message notifications

Message notifications are available only where coach–family messaging has been enabled for the practice.

  • Both the conversation and notification preferences must allow the alert.
  • The recipient must still have access to the conversation.
  • A recent version of the mobile app is required.
  • Opening the alert takes the recipient to the conversation when it is still available.

Privacy on the lock screen

Notification text is deliberately general. Activity alerts do not include care details, and message alerts do not include the message, baby name, or family name.

Anyone who can see your phone's lock screen may still see that Littles Baby Tracker sent an alert. Use your phone's notification-preview settings if you want to hide all previews.

Things to know

  • Push notifications work in the installed iOS or Android app, not an ordinary browser tab.
  • Notification delivery depends on your connection, phone settings, app version, and feature availability.
  • A notification is a prompt to open the app; the app checks your current access when you open it.
  • Turning off one notification preference does not necessarily turn off every notification type.

If something goes wrong

  • If a screen looks out of date, return to it, refresh it, or close and reopen the app.
  • If notifications do not arrive, check the in-app preference and your phone's notification permission.
  • If the app says an update is needed, install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
  • If an alert opens an unavailable item, your access or the item's status may have changed since it was sent.
  • If a notification switch rolls back, check your connection and try saving it again.
